Bespoke Poetry

Naomi Gruzelier celebrant - leaf icon for website

Say it with poetry

My celebrant super power is that I write bespoke poetry, which really adds that special touch to any ceremony.

Sometimes the ones around don’t quite fit or it’s just nice to write a new one, just for you!

A few of the poems I have written are below. If you would like to see more, please take a look at my Facebook page.

If you would like a bespoke poem written, please get in touch.

Ride Free

I wrote this for an elderly lady with dementia and no family that knew her very well. All anyone knew was that she had owned horses in her life and belonged to the local hunt.

My body grew old, my memory faded
But the twinkle of my horses was always there
The cold winter mornings, the warm summer days
I remember those rides and the wind in my hair
My animals met me at the rainbow bridge
My horse took me over in the blink of an eye
Left foot in the stirrup, swing the right one over
The power beneath me, coiled and ready to spring
Gather the reins and a clip of my heels
The horse lunges forwards and I get a rush of fresh air
Galloping faster and faster, it feels like flying
The freedom exhilarating, as I squeal with delight
Straight through the clouds and jumping the moon
Keeping going and going until we are out of sight
Death broke the chains my body had built
For I now ride free, from here to eternity.

Mr & Mrs Smiton

Written for a lovely couple that got married, then gifted on wood as a keepsake.

The door opened wide, her eyes fell on him
This is where their story begins
Don’t expect the story of an ordinary courtship
The country was in lockdown as the pandemic hit
Holed up in Emma’s flat to keep safe from the bugs
Getting to know one another and falling in love
Then came the holidays and a weekend or two
Whitby, Tintagel, Barry Island to name a few
They bought a house and became proper grown ups
Surprise on the 19th September 2021, the question was popped
Here we are now on this beautiful day
To cheer this love on in a very special way
Congratulations, good luck, we wish you the best
Fill each day with laughter and let love to the rest.

For the Love of Paul

Written for the lovely Paul O'Grady

They lined the rainbow bridge, awaiting your grand entrance
Paul was coming home, but maybe Lily would make an appearance
They wanted to be there for you, to repay your years of love
It didn't matter where you went, there would always be a dog
A wonderful career, full of fun and so much laughter
TV, radio or on the stage, doing happily ever after!
Paul, you did so much for Battersea, highlighting homeless hounds
Your love of dogs was evident, and truly knew no bounds
So, rest in peace my lovely, I know it was a shock
Buster is there to greet you, and give you the biggest hug
